Any Advice??
We were invited last Christmas to go on vacation with my step-brother, his fiance and their 2 kiddos to Myrtle Beach. After seeming like it would take forever for September to get here, it is already next month!!
We are going to be traveling by car for a little over 12 hours to get to our destination. In our car we will have Alyssa and Morgan. I'm hoping to borrow someone's portable DVD player so that we don't have to purchase one at this time. I'm really hoping that works like a charm, because Alyssa tends to get antsy in the car after like an hour.
We are leaving at midnight after my stepbrother gets off of work. So, we are hoping to get a few good hours in of driving while the babies are snoozing.
What do I need advice on?? Well, with a 6 month old and a 2 1/2 year old in tow driving 12 hours away from home, does anyone have any suggestions on making for a pleasant drive and a pleasant vacation overall? Any advice would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, with only my 1 kiddo, I don't have squat for advice....especially since she gets antsey pants herself after an hour. I'm sure once you get there, the vacation will be great. It'd be just the ride that I'd be worried about too. Hope someone can help!
DVD Player, driving through the night, and a dose or two of Benadryl will do the trick!!!!
DVD player. And DON'T use it until then, so it's really exciting when she does get to watch it. I wait till Sam gets really antsy, then I whip it out.
We also play I Spy sometimes in the car. Sam's version of I Spy usually goes like "I spy...my cup! I spy...Mommy!", but I try to pick something out far enough ahead and name a color--I spy something green--so that he can try and figure it out.
Sing stupid songs, they love that. Even Morgan might get a kick out of it, if she's awake.
I doubt you'll be able to do a straight shot like when you didn't have kiddos, so just plan on stopping for lots of breaks, and yes, you do have to get them out of the car. Let her run through the gas station or McD's. Take plenty of snacks, but let her pick new ones when you stop if she wants.
Have fun!!
No new advice. The most I've dared is 8 hours. I agree with get a DVD player, though. Good luck!
DVD's for SURE! It's a MUST! We drove 10 hours with my son once and we had a tray that strapped onto his carseat that happened to have a cup holder in it and he colored and drew on it. It kept him occupied for awhile. Good luck!
Well I have to agree with the dvd player. But like Laina said, don't give it to her until it's time to use it then it will be a big deal!! We have driven and traveled allot! We drove from NC to Michigan all the time when we lived there. The kids just got used to it. As did the dogs! lol Driving at night is the best because they do sleep. With a baby, it's a bit harder just cause you have to stop to feed, well if you aren't nursing I guess you don't have to, but I do!! lol That takes allot of time out of driving! But yep, lots of crayons and coloring books and a dvd player! Works like magic!
